David Lankes and “New Librarianship”

Above is an interview with Dave Lankes, a Professor at Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies about his concept of New Librarianship (he’s about to publish a book).
While this isn’t exactly a revolutionary set of ideas within the field itself, particularly for those who are actively participating in ongoing professional development in the library and information science field, it seems that his goal is to bring everyone else up to speed on how and where we (“librarians”) think we are. I’m particularly attracted to his idea of building conversations instead of building stuff. It’s a harder goal to reach, but an important goal when you consider how abstract and broad sweeping our purpose really is (or purposes are).
You can read more of Dave’s thoughts at his blog.
